Cooperation Without Compromise
America's past and present reveal a long and continuing struggle over the legality of abortion. Indeed, this is a subject worthy of continued attention and passion. The cultural stakes are high. How do we appropriately honor the value and dignity of human lives?
Members of the NAE believe that the Bible reveals God’s calling and care for persons before they are born, which is why the NAE firmly and unapologetically opposes abortion. This conviction also stirs the NAE’s interest in the growing conversation about how to find common ground in the effort to reduce the abortion rate in the United States.
Unfortunately, too often the current national debate devolves into an angry feud fueled with bitter words and misunderstandings. Surely, if most Americans are disturbed by our country's high abortion numbers, there must be room for some sincere conversation about how to bring that number down.
More than a million abortions per year is deeply troubling and unacceptable. We can converse and cooperate without compromising our bedrock principles, so let us generate a real, honest, and productive dialogue among parties of goodwill. Let us truly seek out collaborative efforts that will recognize and honor the dignity of all human life. Today’s and tomorrow’s generations are depending on us.
